Maryland Firearms Safety Training
Firearms safety training requirements of The Responsible Gun Safety Act took effect on January 1, 2002. Maryland residents must now complete a firearms safety training course prior to obtaining a new handgun or other regulated firearm.
   
Maryland Firearms State Law Summary
The Maryland Constitution contains no explicit provision conferring a "right to bear arms." Article 28 of the Maryland Declaration of Rights does provide "[t]hat a well regulated Militia is the proper and natural defence of a free Government."

The Violence Policy Center is a national non-profit organization working to fight firearms violence through research, education, and advocacy.
